Arapahoe County last month purchased 2,800 acress of open space, the largest acquisition ever under the county’s open-space program.
The county paid $2.69M for the Bradbury Bijou Creek Ranch, a family cattle grazing operation near Byers since 1958.
The land, about 50 miles east of Denver is bordered by 12,000 acres of conserved lands, including the West Bijou Conservation Easement to the east and Plains Conservation Center to the south.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning to offer the first lease for geothermal development in Colorado on February 11th. The offer would include 800 acres in the Chalk Creek Valley.
